Besides being famous for its natural attractions, Bandung is also known for its culinary spots. Located in Pasir Keliki near Bandung Station, Paskal Food Market has more than 100 food vendors, ranging from traditional food a la Bandung to international ones from Japan and Korea. With the alfresco or outdoor concept, you will be spoiled by the cool breeze from the city of Bandung accompanied by delicious warm food.

With more than 1,000 dishes on offer, the Paskal Food Market at one of West Java capital Bandung’s biggest shopping complexes, Paskal Hyper Square is a haven for food lovers. Located on Jalan Pasirkaliki and within walking distance from Bandung’s railway station, Paskal Food Market hosts more than 100 tenants serving uniquely Bandung dishes and snacks to food from other Indonesian regions as well as international flavors like Korean bulgogi, Japanese bento, and steaks. The market emphasizes serving Indonesian street food in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

The area is spacious enough to fit 4,000 customers and people can choose to sit at open-air tables or dine in one of the dozens of saungs , hut-like structures traditionally used for gatherings. The variety of food on offer also attracts foreign tourists from the many backpacker hostels nearby looking to sample dishes from across the archipelago in one location.

One of the Paskal Food Market’s attraction was the “Fountain of Hope and Luck,” which features a statue of a man holding a ring, standing next to a fountain filled with koi fish. Looks like they replicate similar fountains that are common in Europe. The fountain proved to be a hit with local diners, especially children… 😀

The market hosts some of Bandung’s best street food vendors like Sate Maulana Yusuf, a famous satay stall from Dago and the Bola Ubi shop, which sells fried sweet potato balls, originally from Jalan Gardujati. There is also many local dishes like Soto Betawi (a soup with coconut milk, potatoes and roasted meat from Jakarta),. Surabi (a Bandung pandan and coconut cake), Nasi Campur (dish of a scoop of rice accompanied by small portions of a number of other dishes), Ronde (glutinous rice ball), Martabak (Indonesian stuffed pancake), Basreng (quintessential Bandung dish, super-spicy fried meatball chips)., etc.

We have tried Nasi Campur, Soto, Ronde, Martabak, and Sate Ayam. The most outstanding dishes for us is Sate Maulana Yusuf and Martabak Mr. Black. The chicken skewer has a generous amount of juicy and tender meat, while the martabak has a soft texture and yummy fillings.

 

Overall, Paskal Food Market is a big outdoor food court with all Bandung’s local delicacies you can think of. It has desserts, snacks, and main courses. The atmosphere is good and the food is nice, although only some of them that outstanding. Of course, the price is good as well, although not downright cheap. It’s definitely a recommended culinary spot in Bandung!
