ROCK PAPER SCISSORS – The East, Mega Kuningan

Inspired by the traditional hand game that is popularized in Japan, Rock Paper Scissors is a modern Japanese bistro that focused on Yoshoku dishes, a style of Western-inspired cooking in Japan. Strategically located at The East Building, Mega Kuningan, RPS is managed by the same management with Bottega Ristorante and Wilshire.

The indoor area is dedicated to the coffee bar and the outdoor boasts a large bar in a luxurious glass house ambiance. In addition to walk-ins and reservations, RPS also available for private events and catering. While to entertain the guests, RPS provides live bands on Wednesday and DJs on Friday & Saturday every week.

Serving Yoshoku dishes or Japanese dishes influenced by Western styles of cooking, you can find various unique modern dish creations by the bistro’s head chef, Cla Lisca along with wide range of wine, liquor, and cocktails curated by Singaporean mixologist, Nick Lim. Here are some of the specialty dishes that we have tried.

Spam Dashitzuke

Consists of Chicken spam, Japanese rice, Dashi, onsen Tamago, seaweed, and tobiko, this Spam Dashitzuke turns out so good! The chicken was juicy, fragrant, and well seasoned. It tastes a little bit salty, but still acceptable and we love it.

Karaage Don

The rice bowl dish consists of golden deep fried chicken karaage with Nagoya creamy special sauce, onsen Tamago, shredded cabbage, and Japanese butter rice or tangy plum/ume furikake. From all the dishes that we’ve tried, this one is the CHAMPION! The fluffy Japanese rice, messy egg yolk, crispy chicken karaage, and the creamy sauce are such a killer combination!

Tuna Poke Bowl

Another fusion of Hawaiian – Japanese dish, Tuna Poke Bowl consists of avocado, poke tuna, rice, edamame, and soy dressings. To be honest, this one is not our favorite, since we are not a fan of avocado and raw tuna salad.

R.P.S Dirty Burger

Don’t judge the book by its cover! Even though the bun looks scorched, but this menu was good! The bun was deep-fried and filled with a beef patty, served with fries and foie chantilly. The bun was good, the beef patty was juicy and tender yet seasoned nicely, but the best part would be the foie gras chantilly! The best way to enjoy it is to spread the foie chantilly mixture into the bun and then take a bite. The foie gras mixture was really good, velvety smooth, well-seasoned, creamy with a hint of delightful foie gras aroma & taste. We love the fact that the foie gras tasted really nice without any unpleasant gamey taste.

Minced Beef Katsu Sandwich

The sandwich consists of minced beef katsu, shredded cabbage, and mesclun. The sandwich was really soft while the beef katsu was tender and well seasoned. We love it!

Miso Honey Butter Chicken

This is also one of our most favorite dishes. The marination of the chicken was great, all of the flavors were fully absorbed into it. Unfortunately, the chicken’s texture is not live up our expectation. It’s not juicy and tender as we expected, but the aroma and seasoning is perfect!

Striploin & Truffle Don

A perfect combination that simply cannot go wrong! The fluffy Japanese rice, savory sauce with subtle sweet taste, creamy onsen egg, succulent juicy striploin steak, and aromatic truffle oil. All of the ingredients were complementing each other nicely, each spoonful was a pure bliss!

Overall, we had a pleasant first impression to Rock Paper Scissors. We deeply fall in love with their luxurious glass house ambiance at the outdoor area. RPS serves nice coffee and great food, most of them were memorable enough that make us want to go back. It’s definitely the ideal place for lunch, dinner, or rewarding oneself after a long, hard day at work.
