RM. BUMI AKI – The Best Sundanese Restaurant in Puncak

Sundanese food is a must when visiting Puncak. One of our favorite Sundanese restaurant in Puncak is Bumi Aki. I still remember the first time I visited this place when still a child, where only a small cottage. But after about 15 years this restaurant continues to grow and today, RM. Bumi Aki is one of the largest and most favorite Sundanese Restaurant in Puncak area, and have the multiple branches in Puncak and Bogor. And this time, we visited their first restaurant which is located in Jl. Raya Puncak.

Bumi Aki consists of two buildings each consisting of two floors. The interior design is simple with typical traditional Indonesian style. They also have Lesehan (sitting on the floor) area with a very stunning view of tea plantations in Puncak.

Bumi Aki offers a wide variety of Indonesian and Chinese food, such as Sop Buntut, Gurame Goreng, Sate Ayam, Fu Yung Hai, etc. Their most signature dishes is Sop Buntut (Oxtail Soup). From the first time I visited Bumi Aki, we really love their Sop Buntut. You must try this one if you come to Bumi Aki! FYI, there is a complimentary cassava chips and hot tea to accompany your meal

Kopi Tubruk & Wedang Jahe

For starter, we ordered a cup of Kopi Tubruk and hot Wedang Jahe. It’s such a perfect choice to warm up your body in a cold mountain breeze.

Sop Buntut (Oxtail Soup)

This is our most favorite dish from Bumi Aki. The meat was tender and juicy while the soup was savory, rich, and flavorful. For more comforting taste, you can give a lime into the soup. It’s really tasty and very recommended!

Sop Buntut Goreng (Fried Oxtail Soup)

Another version of oxtail soup. The oxtail was fried to the perfection and serves with a bowl of soup. The meat texture was crisper and tastes sweeter than the ordinary oxtail soup but still juicy and tender as well, perfectly paired with thick and flavorful broth.

Nasi Timbel Komplit

As for rice dishes, our favorite is Nasi Timbel Komplit. It’s a traditional Sundanese cuisine from West Java, consisting of steamed rice wrapped in a banana leaf. It’s the heat of the hot cooked rice touches the banana leaf and makes a unique aroma. Nasi Timbel Komplit served with various side dishes such as fried chicken, tahu goreng, tempe goreng, sayur asem, kerupuk (crackers), lalap (raw vegetable), and sambal.

Sate Ayam (Chicken Satay)

This one is also their recommended dishes. Fresh grilled chicken skewers perfectly combined with soy and butter sauce. The smoky and burnt aroma chicken was soft and tender with perfect seasoning. Delicious!

Mie Goreng Spesial (Special Fried Noodle)

Typical Indonesian fried noodle, tasted a bit sweet yet delicious like mie tek-tek or Javanese fried noodle.

Gado Gado

It’s an Indonesian salad of slightly boiled, blanched or steamed vegetables and hard-boiled eggs, fried tofu and tempeh, and lontong (rice wrapped in a banana leaf), served with a peanut sauce dressing. The creamy, sweet, sour, and spicy peanut sauce is really what makes this a great salad. If there such a thing as a national salad, this gado-gado will be it.

Tumis Tauge Ikan Asin (Sauteed Bean Sprouts with Salted Fish)

They’re crunchy, fresh and sweet. With the right ingredient, bean sprouts can turn into a beautiful dish. The pairing of bean sprouts and salted fish is really good. I’m not really a fan of salted fish, but I do admit salted fish and bean sprouts are the perfect match!
