[THAILAND] AMAZING THAILAND TOURISM YEAR 2018 – Open to the New Shades of Thailand

Sawasdee! First of all, the biggest apology for the one-week hiatus! If you follow our Instagram, you would know if we had just gone to Bangkok a few days ago. We’re invited by Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Jakarta to join Mega Fam Trip and attending inauguration procession for officially opening “Amazing Thailand Tourism Year 2018”.

It is no longer a secret that Thailand is one of the most favorite tourist destinations, especially for Indonesian tourist. Culinary experiences from street food to fine dining, great shopping scene, beautiful nature, and local culture are some reason why many tourists visiting Thailand and the “Amazing Thailand Tourism Year 2018” has been designed to further strengthen the Thai tourism industry.

The “Amazing Thailand Tourism Year 2018” highlight activities based on 13 core niche products: Sports, Gastronomy, Maritime tourism, Wedding and Honeymoon, Medical and Wellness, Community-based Tourism, Leisure, Green Tourism, Night Tourism, MICE, Trade Fairs, B2B Marketing Activity, and Logistics. Communication strategies for the Amazing Thailand Tourism Year 2018 can be categorised into 4S’: Saneh or Charm (as reflected in the Thai people, Thai textile, etc.), Sanook or Joy (sports events), Sabai or Relaxing (Thai massage), and Sut Saep or Delicious (fine street food / fine dining / Michelin star restaurants).

The “Amazing Thailand Tourism Year 2018 Opening Procession” parade was held on November 15th at 5.30 – 8 PM at The Forecourt of Siam Discovery, Rama I Road, Bangkok. The parade was enlivened with a phenomenon of “Discover Thainess Procession” with over 1,000 performers.

Traditions from the Five Regions of Thailand

The procession represents and highlights the amazing architectures and sculptures from five regions of Thailand (northern, southern, eastern, north, and central region).

Northern region – The miniature of Wat Phra That Sri Chom Thong, Chiang Mai with the northern Thai dance show and the northern tradition to take the sacred relic out of the mondop and put on display for people to worship called “Rub Phra That Jao Kao Wiang”

Southern region – The miniature of Wat Phra Mahathat, Nakhon Si Thammarat with the Manorah dance show and the southern tradition to take the monk’s cloths above your head and walk around the pagoda 3 times then offer to the pagoda called “Hae Pha Khuen That”.

Thai Gastronomy

The parade also focuses on the varieties of distinctive Thai foods, desserts, and ingredients such as Tom Yum Kung, Mango with Sticky rice, and Tup Tim Krob. There are Mr. Keng Tachaya reading the poem about food in Thai style (Kub Sepa).

The Colorful Festival & Sport Tourism

The parade showcase the various outstanding festivals that will happen in the kingdom of Thailand, for example, Thailand International Kite Festival, International Balloon Festival and Wonderfruit Festival. After that, the parade focus on sports tourism that will be held in Thailand in 2018 including Air Race 1 Thailand, Moto GP, Amazing Thailand marathon Bangkok 2018 and World Wai Kru Muay Thai.

“New Shades of Amazing Thailand” Party

Thailand Mega Fam Trip 2017 was held by The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), in collaboration with Thai Airways International, Bangkok Airways, and EVA Airways hosting over 300 travel agents and media from around the world. Besides the inauguration parade, we also attended the ‘New Shades of Amazing Thailand’ Party on 16 November at the Nai Lert Park Heritage Home in Bangkok, where we learned more about the TAT’s ‘Open to the New Shades of Thailand’ marketing concept.

The ‘Open to the New Shades of Thailand’ concept encourages visitors to discover a new perspective on Thailand, at both existing and new places and attractions. There is more attention given to enjoying unique local experiences and inclusive tourism, reflecting Thainess and the Thai people’s warmth in welcoming visitors. Within this, there is a focus on specific customer segments; such as gastronomy tourism, luxury, weddings and honeymoons, families, female travelers, and Gen Y.

The concept of Open to the New Shades of Thailand reflects another kind of “Thainess”, which is the unique characteristic of the Thai people to welcome visitors from around the world. It looks promising which give greater prominence to unique local experiences of Thailand on the world stage and also offers a new perspective on Thailand. The places may be the same, but potential visitors will be provided with new perspectives.
