[SINGAPORE] GUDETAMA CAFE - Suntec City

Character cafés are on the rise in Singapore and adding on to the ever-growing list is the spanking new Gudetama Café Singapore. Officially opening its doors to the public on 30 November 2016, Gudetama Café Singapore serving a myriad of cute Gudetama-themed dishes that will make your hearts melt.

The theme for the interior is that of a “Food Playground” with animated walls, waffle ceilings, and egg-shaped booths. There is also a merchandise corner where they sell anything Gudetama stuff like the tote bag, plush doll, luggage, etc. The experience will be completed with perfect photo opportunities with the Gudetama figurines.

Inspired by popular scenes in Gudetama’s animation series, the menu consists of 10 main courses, 4 side dishes, 5 desserts, 2 kids meals and a range of specialty drinks. Prices for main courses range from $18 to $38, while side dishes start from $12.50. So, when you coming here, whip out your cameras because you are going to have a fun time photographing them!

“I’m Cold” Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict

Poached eggs as Gudetama snug over mashed avocado on brioche toast with smoked salmon as blankets! It’s drizzled with zesty hollandaise sauce and complete with mashed avocado, tobiko, and tater tots. The fresh salmon is just okay, it’s topped with generous amount of Hollandaise sauce and the brioche toast has the buttery flavor with a soft texture.

Eggcited Cajun Chicken with Waffles

The Eggcited Cajun Chicken with Waffles is also a wonderful choice and we really loved the marinate on the poultry. It’s consists of Grilled Cajun chicken and sunny-side-up on buttermilk waffle, served with whipped cream and maple syrup. The chicken was juicy and well marinated. It’s crunchy and spicy seasoned fried chicken with a slightly sweet crispy and fluffy waffle.

Citrus Pan

As for desserts, we tried this cute Citrus Pan. The sunny-side Gudetama shaped lemon tart with a thin chocolate shell. The citrus flavor was strong enough and well paired with the chocolate.

Strawberry Yogurt Egg Shell

The Gudetama shaped chocolate is so cute! Flavor wise, strawberry yogurt and white chocolate egg shell were good. The flavors were on point and not over sweet.

Overall, Gudetama Cafe Singapore manages to score in terms of creating a playground type of space, and the food is reasonably decent considering its constraints. It is certainly worth a visit because some dishes really surprised us with its taste. However, as with most of these “character themed cafes”, don’t have high expectations of the food. They are primarily attractive because of their aesthetics. And we guess that you also come not for the taste of the food.

Keeping in mind that the pricing leans towards the higher end, in terms of taste. But still, we guess that you’ll be here not for the taste of the food although the food is not bad at all. Be here to soak in the fun dining experience! The price was acceptable for its execution, presentation, all the efforts to ensure they deliver their best to the Gudetama fans.
