[SINGAPORE] AH SENG BAK KUT TEH – Bugis

When in Singapore, don’t forget to eat Bak Kut Teh, one of the signature dishes from Singapore. Bak Kut Teh is a traditional Chinese soup and the name itself actually means “Meat Bone Tea” and at its simplest, consists of meaty pork ribs simmered in a complex broth of herbs and spices (including star anise, cinnamon, cloves, dang gui, fennel seeds, and garlic). And yes the broth was made from pork ribs bone.

Despite its name, in fact, no tea in the dish itself; the name refers to a strong oolong Chinese tea which is usually served alongside the soup in the belief that it dilutes or dissolves the copious amount of fat consumed in this pork-laden dish.

And this time, we are going to share our dining experience at Ah Seng Bak Kut Teh which located in Bugis Point Road (opposite Bugis Junction). You can get here easily by MRT, drop at Bugis Station with a little walk (7-10 minutes).

The concept of the interior design was adopted from the traditional Chinese-Malayan style. You’ll find any antique decorations items like the traditional wooden window, ancient Chinese eating utensils (metal cup, bottle, bowl, thermos, meal box, etc.), painting, wooden blind, and many more.

Signature Pork Ribs Soup

The base soup is light but tasty and very strong on the pepper, each and every sip of the soup was very refreshing. In my personal taste, it will be more delicious with a little more salt. You can actually smell the scent of the spices on every sip of the broth, and there are two kinds of soups: the lighter one (with garlic and pepper) and the darker one (with medicine). For the pork ribs itself, I like a bit of fat in it making the texture a bit more tender, it was actually more tender that I expected.

Signature Loin Ribs Soup

This one is also good. The meat was tender. But actually, I don’t like eating meat with bone… LOL

Pork Tenderloin Soup

This sliced pork soup was absolutely great. For those who dislike eating meat with bones like me, this is the best choice. The meat was so tender and easy to eat. This one is my personal favorite… 😀

Pig’s Tail Soup

Honestly, I’m a meat eater and I don’t like innards food and it’s kind like this pig’s tail soup. I feel disgusting when eaten.. 🙁

Seriously, this pork ribs noodle was super-delicious! Really love the seasoning of the pork ribs, it was savory and balanced within combining sweet and salty. The noodle was soft and the pork was tender, both the ribs and the minced pork. I would definitely recommend you guys to try this one. It’s so addicted!!!

Overall, we truly love their bak kut teh, especially their savory peppery soup and tender meat. And the best part is, you can refill the soup as much as you want! The price was affordable too if comparing with restaurant. The most recommended is Pork Tenderloin Soup and Pork Ribs Noodle. Seriously, it so addicted! 😀
