Talking about Balinese food, the festive spicy, savory, and sweet flavors always keep us coming back for more. For Balinese food cravings fix, there’s a new option in town, the newly opened Rempah Bali restaurant in Citywalk Sudirman, Jakarta.
Located on the 1st floor of Citywalk Sudirman, Rempah Bali has an eye-catching interior design with orange and green color schemes. There is a big mural depicting the hallmark of Bali and many other Balinese ornaments.
Even though specialize in Balinese food like Ayam Betutu, Lawar, and Sate Lilit, Rempah also has a wide variety of Indonesian favorites such as Ayam Suwir, Mie Goreng, Krecek, Bakwan Jagung, etc. And also not to miss the famous Balinese Sambal Matah, accompanied by another Indonesian sambal.
Once you get to the restaurant, there is a storefront featuring a selection of food which you can choose. All the food selection are labeled with the green tag and orange tag which show the price of these foods. The green tag will cost you IDR 8,000 while the orange tag cost you IDR 16,000 per item.
For a more value deals, Rempah has three packages that you can choose:
- Package 1 (Rice + 1 Orange + 2 Green): IDR 39,000++
- Package 2 (Rice + 1 Orange + 3 Green): IDR 47,000++
- Package 3 (Rice + 2 Orange + 2 Green): IDR 55,000++
Every package comes with 1 selection of sambal. And you also can add any other items separately as you want.
About the food selections, the green menus consists of Sate Lilit, Bakwan Jagung, Telur Dadar, Kacang Teri, Mie Goreng, Lawar, Tumis Genjer, Urap, Terong Balado, Tempe Orek, Jukut Kacang Panjang, etc. while the orange menus consists of Ayam Betutu, Ayam Suwir, Ayam Bumbu Pedas, Ayam Bakar, Kulit Ayam, Ikan Asin Balado, Krecek, Ikan Tongkol, etc.
From all the selections we’ve tried, our favorite is Kulit Ayam, Ayam Suwir, Mie Goreng. All of them are tasty and delicious. Right level of spicy, sweet, savory, and bold in flavor. Kulit Ayam was crispy and spicy while Ayam Suwir was salty and Mie Goreng was spicy and salty. But to be honest, their Mie Goreng is too oily and it will be better if they reducing the saltiness.
Besides the recommended menu we’ve mentioned above, don’t forget to try their Krecek. We’re very like it with a spicy kick and savory coconut milk. And off course, their sambal matah and sambal pedas will complete and satisfy your taste (if you like spicy of course).
For drink and dessert, there are many refreshing menus that you can choose such as Flavoured Ice Tea (Lychee, Strawberry, Mango, Lemongrass), Ice Squash (Lychee, Strawberry, Mango, Kiwimon), Juices (Avocado, Lychee, Strawberry), Es Campur, Es Cendol, Es Cincau Hitam, and Es Degan. The other selection is Ice/Hot Tea, Lemon Tea, Coffee, and Beer.
The most recommended drinks are Es Degan with refreshing coconut and Es Cendol, a traditional Indonesian dessert with green rice flour jellies, coconut milk, and palm sugar. For more comforting desserts, their Es Teler and Es Campur was equally good with slices of fresh fruit.
Overall, Rempah Bali offers a wide variety of Balinese and Indonesian food with a good taste and affordable price. Yummy food with the festive spicy, salty, and savory flavor which is typical of authentic Balinese and Indonesian cuisine. We really like the concept that allows you to mix and match the dishes to fit your taste. We feel like to eating it all!
