Ramen is always interesting with its powerful taste. From tons of Ramen houses in Indonesia, we have a recommendation for you all Ramen lovers, it’s Bariuma Ramen, one of the most widely known ramen in Japan and currently already have branches in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia.
Established in 2003, Bariuma which is originated in Hiroshima, Japan, is known for its thick broth of soup and tasty homemade noodle, garnished with the most delicious toppings. Bariuma itself comes from Japanese “Bari” which means “Super”, and “Uma” which means “Tasty”. In other words, Bariuma means “Super Tasty”. The founder of Bariuma Ramen believes that a tasty bowl of ramen has to have super rich and thick soup that suit to the modern style. They developed the rich tonkotsu soy sauce based with the finest soya and cooked with authentic tonkotsu flavor. The noodle is all homemade and you can freely choose the hardness from original, firm, and soft. Now, after opening more than 50 outlets in Japan, Bariuma Ramen is finally ready to be enjoyed by Indonesian people.
Last weekend, FOOD IN LOVE visited Bariuma Ramen outlet at Citywalk Sudirman, which recently has been dominated by Japanese restaurant and Japanese businessman from the offices nearby. The place is not too spacious and consists of 2 areas. There is the inner area (non-smoking) and the outer area (smoking). The place is clean, bright, and well decorated with simple Japanese style ornaments and Japanese calligraphy on the wall.
Even though they specialize in Tonkotsu Ramen (with pork), Bariuma Ramen also serves chicken ramen. The most interesting are, they have different colors of bowl and cutleries to separate the flavors, Red for Pork and Black for Chicken. These two color of spoon and chopstick is provided on every table. We really appreciate that Bariuma separated all of their cooking utensils and cutleries for pork and chicken. We can see how serious they are with this matter (compared to other ramen joints). Even the waiters will remind you to use only the utensils that match with your meals (pork/chicken). For some people who avoid pork-selling restaurant maybe still wouldn’t come, but their decision should be respected.
Ajitama-Uma
While Bariuman Ramen is their signature dish, we recommend you to skipped it and try Ajitama-Uma instead. It’s a pork flavored shoyu soup with grilled thick-cut chashu and flavored omega 3 egg. The difference with Bariuma Ramen is just the additional flavored egg (ajitama). The flavored egg is left for a day soaked in shoyu and finished with bonito bouillon. The noodle and half boiled egg were tasty with thick broth soup and it’s bold of flavor. The best part is definitely the thick-cut grilled chashu. It’s grilled to perfection, well seasoned, and extremely juicy!
Nori-Uma
It’s ramen with pork flavored shoyu soup with grilled thick thick-cut chashu and seaweed. Overall, the noodle, soup, and chashu are same with Bariuma or Ajitama-Uma. The different is only additional seaweed (nori).
Torotama Abura Soba
We’re glad to know that Bariuma Ramen also serves Abura Soba or Japanese style of Bakmi. Like the ramen, Bariuma also serves Abura Soba with pork and chicken as well. We tried Torotama Abura Soba with pork. The noodle topped with pork chashu, negi, nori, half boiled egg, and pickles. Surprisingly, their Abura Soba turns out so good. It’s tasty and rich of flavor while the pork chashu is freaking good as well!
Chicken Gyoza
Eating ramen is never complete without gyozas and gyozas are part of the whole experience while enjoying ramen. Bariuma serves three kinds of Gyoza, there are original, teriyaki, and spicy. All of them available in 5 pcs and 10 pcs portion. The uniqueness is, they are served with still connected one to another. It doesn’t look pretty but it feels like homemade gyoza. Honestly, this one is not our favorite. It’s written on the menu that the secret of their thin layer is mixing flour and potato starch with specific blend ratio so that it becomes more crispier. But unfortunately, it’s not crispy and juicy as we expected even some drops of shoyu makes its good smell.
Spicy Gyoza
These spicy gyoza were indeed spicy for Japanese restaurant’s standard and left a burning sensation in mouth after eating. It wasn’t a terrible burning sensation, but a light one after we eat spicy food using chili. The gyoza itself tasted a little bit sour and we didn’t know if we’re just unlucky or it was made that way.
Teriyaki Gyoza
From all gyozas we’ve tried, this one is better than these two. Served with teriyaki sauce and sprinkled with sesame sauce, it’s sound too nice to be missed. The teriyaki sauce was basically just sweet like typical teriyaki sauce, but the additional sesame gives it a more comforting taste. It’s not bad at all.
Overall, we had a great and amazing lunch at Bariuma Ramen. The food they served tasted pretty delicious, the service was great, and the place is nice. We really appreciate that they separated all of their cooking utensils and cutleries for pork and chicken. It’s a good and unique selling point for sure. We believe that Bariuma Ramen will be a strong contender for other ramen house(s) in Jakarta with their amazing chashu and we can say that it’s one of the most authentic and delicious ramen in Indonesia. We’re so addicted to their “Super Tasty” ramen and we’ll definitely come back for more.
FYI, a good news for those who live in Bali and Cikarang, Bariuma Ramen will open a new outlet in Beachwalk Bali (March 2017) and Hollywood Junction Jababeka, Cikarang (May 2017). We are also happy because it means there will be more people enjoying their “Super Tasty” Ramen!
