Myeongdong Kyoja is a famous restaurant in Myeongdong area and well known by many people around the world. Having been around for more than 40 years, Myeongdong Kyoja claims to be the founders of handmade Kalguksu noodles, which literally means noodles made by cutting flour dough into thin slices by the knife.
It wasn’t too hard to find the restaurant in the beauty-fashion shops filled Myeongdong and there are 2 branches within close with each other. During our #FoodInLoveKOREA trip, we visited their main restaurant which occupies a 3-storey shop-space. Surprisingly, although having a slight menu variation, they are completely filled with customers when we visited around 3 PM.

The menu is limited (just 4 items on sale) which makes deciding and ordering very easy. You also can spot almost every table ordering the same items. There were Kalguksu (chopped noodle soup), Bibimguksu (spicy noodle soup), Mandu (dumplings), and Kongguksu (noodles in cold soybean soup). They are all priced at KRW 8,000 and they gave their house-made kimchi on the side.
Mandu in Myeongdong Kyoja is steamed dumplings. It’s 10 big, plump, and juicy dumplings. The outer shells are silky smooth and paper thing to the point of being near translucent. These are stuffed with a mixture of pork, leek, and vegetables. These dumplings were absolutely scrumptious!
Myeongdong Kyoja’s Kalguksu is a fantastic combination of pleasant-tasting thick chicken broth, soft noodle, and garnish. The noodles had an amazingly soft texture that blended in very nicely with the broth. It was slippery smooth, like a much softer form of udon. The chicken broth was exceptional which had deep rich flavor and a thick consistency. So simple yet delicious!
Overall, Myeongdong Kyoja is undoubtedly the most legendary restaurant in Myeongdong. The food is tasty, ingredients are fresh, the prices are reasonable, and good service even they’re always packed with customers. If you’re in Seoul then we highly recommend you to dropping by for a taste of authentic Korean cuisine.
