Welcome to Jakarta’s newest sports bar! String music, hearty food, and Guinness on tap, Irish pubs are extremely popular all across the globe, with McGettigan’s being the latest addition to Jakarta’s dining scene. McGettigan’s is a brand-new Irish pub and sports bar that had 17 locations around the world, including Dubai, Singapore, New York, and of course Ireland.
Located at Mega Kuningan, South Jakarta, McGettigan’s is easy to find, just across the road from the Ritz-Carlton, in the basement of Menara BTPN. This is a very good location choice since Mega Kuningan recently has been dominated by Ex-Pat community and businessman from the offices nearby. As a business district, it gets particularly busy for lunch and after office hours.
McGettigan’s is built on a spacious floor, with several distinct spaces for customers to sit down. There is also an outdoor terrace at Sunken Plaza with a view of a small courtyard, where customers can enjoy the sunlight and fresh air.
The interior design itself doesn’t look like your typical Irish pub. In fact, McGettigan’s is much more modern, in a good way. It seems to have been designed to be halfway between classy and cozy. They’ve kept the leather sofas and the Guinness but got rid of the traditional décor and antiques. There is a quiet dining area with private booths and tables, a long and elegant bar, several high tables and chairs for more casual meals and drinking, and VIP booths and tables for larger groups, next to the live music stage.
McGettigan’s menu showcases a mix of flavors, starting from local favorites includes Nasi Goreng, Sop Buntut, and Ayam Bakar, to traditional pub food like Fish & Chips, burgers, steak, with a fine selection of cocktails, wine, and beer. They also serve Irish Breakfast, a filling and savory combination of eggs, pudding, sausage, rashers, tomatoes and baked beans.
Vegetable Spring Roll
For starter, we had this vegetable spring roll with mixed vegetable, sweet, and sour dressing. Nothing special from the spring roll, though the sour dressing was good.
Fried Vegetable Samosas
The fried samosas with potato, green pea, carrot, wonton pastry, and chutney. Just like the vegetable spring roll, there is nothing special besides the crunchy pastry and dressing sauce.
Thai Fish Cake
Typical Thai fish cake with Asian coleslaw, cilantro, sweet chili, and lime. The fish cake was soft inside and crispy outside, perfectly paired with festive sour sauce.
Escargot Bruschetta
Aromatic herbs snail, pesto, cheese, bread, and salad. The best part is the escargots’ tender texture and clean, but since we don’t like escargot, this one is not our favorite.
Spicy Dry Chicken Wings
Look like the ordinary chicken wings, but this one is beyond our expectations. The chicken wings were flavorful and well seasoned with Asian spices.
Pork Belly Popcorn
From its name, we can imagine how delicious is it. The super duper juicy and tender pork belly with soy honey, pickled ginger, and sesame seeds. The texture was just perfect, juicy and crispy at the same time, and perfectly seasoned that dominated by soy honey. You just can feel that pork belly melts in your mouth!
Chicken Popcorn
Like the pork belly popcorn, but in chicken version. The seasoning is same, and it tastes good. But still not better than the pork belly one.
Chicken Soft Quesadilla
Chicken, salsa, sour cream, and avocado wrapped in soft quesadilla or tortilla, and topped with jalapeno. The quesadilla was soft yet crispy, and the creamy avocado and chicken filling turn out so good.
The Irish Burger
If you visiting McGettigan’s for the first time, we highly recommend you to try this menu, our most favorite dish at McGettigan’s! Crispy marinated pork belly (beef is the other option), smoked streaky bacon, onions, and fried egg are all squeezed into a tower of goodness. The sheer volume of the burger makes it hard to get a full bite without at least some dripping – but to be honest, this is half the fun. Served with french fries and tomato relish, it is not hard to see why this burger is one of the most popular and signature dishes at McGettigan’s.
Wagyu Beef Sliders
Consists of aged cheddar, caramelized onion, and brioche buns, these wagyu beef sliders were really good. The wagyu beef is juicy, tender, and flavorful while the brioche buns were really soft.
Fish and Chips
It’s one of McGettigan’s favorites that consists of two fried fish fillet come with french fries, mushy peas, tartar sauce, and lemon. Crispy yet soft fish fillet just can’t go wrong with french fries and tartar sauce, but it will be better with the mushy peas!
Molten Mess
For dessert, this molten mess is absolutely a perfect choice. It’s more like deconstruction molten cake with brownies chocolate, honeycomb ice cream, chopped nuts, caramel, and chocolate sauce that served in a jar and topped with a white chocolate chip. To eat this, you have to pour the hot chocolate sauce on the white chocolate chip to make it melt and then just mix it well. This might be the best chocolate dessert dish we’ve ever had so far and hard to forget simply because it’s so good with lots of chocolate inside.
Cocktails and Mocktails
As an Irish pub and bar, McGettigan’s serves a wide variety of cocktails, mocktails, beer, alcoholic drinks, and any other classic beverage such as flavored iced tea, soft drinks, coffee, etc. Since we are not alcohol drinkers, we can’t review more of their signature beverages. But with their reputation as one of best Irish bars across the globe, surely they will not disappoint.
Overall, McGettigan’s is a great addition in Mega Kuningan business district with live music and sport feature heavily with numerous HD TVs and giant screens televising the world’s top sporting events 7 days a week in addition to some of the city’s best music acts performing live on stage throughout the week. The bar is the perfect place for a nightcap, post-work drink or an evening of revelry in the heart of Mega Kuningan. It’s definitely a good choice to experience a taste of modern Ireland.
