We visited this place randomly since it’s not included in our itinerary before. After having lunch at Gogung restaurant in Myeongdong, we continued to Namsangol Hanok Village by Seoul Metro Subway. It’s easily reached by subway, just hop off at Chungmuro Station, and then walk for only 3 minutes.

When arrived at the main gate, you will find the information map of the whole complex for your guidance to strolling around the village. Upon entering from the front gate, you will get a taste of the traditional life while escaping from the bustling city life of modern times. The traditional garden with its pavilion and the traditional houses create a peaceful ambiance before the forested Namsan Mountain.

There are five hanok houses were remodeled after the traditional houses of Joseon Dynasty and over a range of social classes, from peasants to aristocrats. The furniture in the houses is arranged to help guests understand the daily lives of the past, and the clean, traditional houses, as well as their antique items provide a great photo op. To protect these fragile heritages, only one of the hanok houses is open to the public. The house of Yoon-ssi of Okin-dong has been transformed into Yoon’s Tearoom, where guests can enjoy traditional tea and refreshments.

We strolled around the hanok village and continue to the garden at the back gate. There is a road with beautiful landscape and pavilion to enjoy crisp air and fall foliage. Since it’s located on flat land, Namsangol Hanok Village was more enjoyable to strolling around than Bukchon Hanok Village which located on a hilly contour.
