For dessert lover, Taiwanese dessert must be something special since it’s gained the peak of hype in Indonesia a few years ago. Started with bubble tea fever and followed by the trend of dessert bowl, Taiwanese dessert seems to persist until now. As the people nowadays also more concern for a healthy lifestyle, let we introduce you a place where you can have a less guilty Taiwanese dessert, it’s Banainai Cafe in Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta.
Located at Rukan Emerald in Pantai Indah Kapuk, Banainai is brought to you from Taiwan since the owner itself is Taiwanese who have been living in Jakarta for many years. Banainai itself is the mixed word from “Banana” and “Nainai” (in mandarin means grandma) which mean the youth’s trust for elderly people, like grandmas to take good care of our well being by consuming fresh fruits that best for our health.
The interior is nicely designed and you can expect a colorful yet homey ambiance. The using of natural-themed material like wooden material and synthetic leaf make it feel warm and look nicer.
Focused on healthy dessert, Banainai served a wide variety of Taiwanese dessert and snack such as Snow Ice, Popsicles, Sweet Potatoes, and Red Bean Soup. The good point is, they used a low-fat milk for every dessert, and housemade recipe to ensure the freshness of each menu which has a lot of health benefits.
Fresh Fruit Series
If you’re following our Instagram, you might see beautiful rainbow drinks in many tones. That’s three of fresh fruit series from Banainai that we’ve tried, there are Guava Funk (passion fruit + red guava), Romeo n Juliet (avocado + dragon fruit), and Summer Sweaty (passion fruit + clitoria tea + pineapple).
With the combination of 100 real fruit, it’s truly refreshing, delicious, and healthy which can boost up your body immune and gives you energy throughout the day. But to be honest, it tastes too sweet for us since they put additional sugar/syrup. We think that it will be better if they keep it natural and don’t add any sweetener by default.
Guava Groove
Please don’t leave this place before trying their snow ice. It’s a big bowl of shaved ice topped with fresh cuts of guava and comes with parfait (with mango sauce) and boba. The shaved ice is purely made upon order from 100% real fruit. No wonder it tastes so good, not too watery, very smooth texture, and doesn’t easily melt.
The shaved ice is perfectly paired with the parfait and chewy boba which will give you more pleasure. The snow ice will be perfect for sharing with 2-3 persons since it comes in a big portion.
Sweet Potatoes
This snack might look like a simple boring fried sweet potato but surprisingly it tastes so good and beyond our expectation. It’s cooked to perfection and coated with the caramelized sugar. Just pull it when it’s still hot and you’ll get the beautiful sugar string. The caramelized sugar coating is at the right level of sweetness and also give an extra crunchiness. Like it so much!
Red Bean Soup
There’s no need more introduction for this dish. As a popular dish in many Asian countries, you can easily find red bean soup in any Asian or Chinese restaurant. The glutinous rice balls were chewy and well combined with the thick red bean soup.
Overall, Banainai is a recommended destination where you can find healthy sweets and desserts. The drink, dessert, and snack here tastes good and comes in a beautiful presentation. We really love their concept to serve healthy yet enjoyable dessert for everyone, at the reasonable price tag.
