Hands up if you love Korean food! All the way from Singapore, Seoul Yummy Indonesia officially opens its restaurant door to the foodies in Jakarta. Such a very good news for Korean food lovers, isn’t it?
Established in Singapore since 2008, Seoul Yummy has more than 10 years of Korean culinary experience and it has made a name for itself in Singapore, with 8 restaurants currently, as the go-to casual restaurant for quintessential traditional Korean cuisine with a modern twist. Their expansion into Indonesia was performed under a joint venture between Gratify Group and Maspion Group.
Seoul Yummy’s first outlet in Indonesia is located at Avenue of the Stars, on the Ground Floor of Lippo Mall Kemang, South Jakarta. The restaurant has a cheerful atmosphere with pop art-style illustrations interior and playful dish names inspired by K-drama shows and bands. The place is pretty spacious and cozy enough to accommodate 92 indoor seating, not to mention their lovely interior design concept with the play on colorful patterns and ornaments.
From boiling hot stews to meat grilled on the table before you, Korean food is almost impossible not to fall in love with. In Seoul Yummy, you can indulge your taste buds with a great selection of Korean dishes since they have over 30 exciting dishes, such as Signature Army Stew which has always been their customers’ favorite, Cheese Pots for the cheese lovers, and many more Korean comfort food.
Daebak Army Stew
Army Stew or commonly known as Budae Jjigae, is a very popular Korean soup dishes. Daebak Army Stew consists of spicy chicken, ramyeon, tteobokki (rice cake), spam sausages, enoki mushroom, beancurd, baked beans, kimchi, and assorted vegetables.
The soup is thick, savory, and bold of gochujang flavor. The rich flavors of marinated Korean meat also enhance the flavor of their homemade spicy soup. With its generous portion, this heavenly pot is perfect to share with 2-3 people and it’s also available in beef or seafood version.
Chingu Cheese Pots
Cheese lovers that crave melty and stretchy cheese can bask in their range of Cheese Pots. Six pcs of chicken wings served on a hot plate with mozzarella and cheddar cheese, jalapeno, fries, egg, and 2 sides of your choice (corn cream / fried chikin / tortilla chips / chicken kimchi dumplings).
The crunchy chicken hand brushed 1 piece at a time with their specialty soy garlic and sweet & spicy sauce, both of them are scrumptious, savory, spicy and slightly sweet while the chicken was very juicy and tender with crispy skin. The most fun and best part is when the chicken rolled in cheese! The staff will melt the cheese in front of the customer, roll the cheese on the chicken wings, and then serve it immediately.
Sarang Bibimbap
One bowl wonder! Bibimbap is a Korean mixed rice and this Sarang Bibimbap is served as a hot stone pot of warm white rice topped with assorted vegetables, a choice of meat (spicy chicken or bulgogi beef / spicy squid), and sunny side up egg. There is two sauce selection, Bibim (slightly spicy and sweet, for the traditional taste) and BBQ (non-spicy and slightly sweet, suitable for kids). The rice was slightly crispy, and the veggies and sauces all had excellent flavor. We really like the sesame aroma which gives a better taste and make it flavorful.
Korean Rice Balls
If Japan has onigiri, Korea has Jumeokbap. Yes, it’s a Korean version of onigiri or Korean rice ball. In Seoul Yummy, this Korean seaweed rice rolled comes in 2 selection of meat, Spicy Chicken and Bulgogi Beef. We prefer the Spicy Chicken since it’s spicy and savory while the Bulgogi Beef is slightly sweet in a good way.
Potato Pancake / Kimchi Pancake
Have you ever tried Pajeon or Korean pancake? If you’ve never tried it, then you should do! It’s available in two version, with pan-fried grated potatoes or pan-fried homemade kimchi, shredded carrot, and spring onion pancake. Personally, we prefer the potato pancake since it has more familiar flavor like we had in any other Korean restaurant. As for the cheese lover, you can add cheese topping for IDR 15,000.
Bingsu
Dessert is the part you should not miss, especially when it comes to Korean dessert. Bingsu or Korean shaved ice is famous for its beautiful presentation and Seoul Yummy do it very well! As like you see in the photos below, with fresh ingredients and the generous amount of toppings, it’s not only great in presentation but also truly refreshing and perfect for your sweet tooth!
Overall, the presence of Seoul Yummy with their strong concept will give us more Korean restaurant options in Jakarta. Their modern flavors of the food that remain true to the soul of Korean cuisine will keep you coming for more, especially for signature Army Stew and Cheese Pot. Last but not least, congratulations for the grand opening of Seoul Yummy’s first outlet in Indonesia at Lippo Mall Kemang. Best of luck going forward and hopefully we can find more outlets in Indonesia in the future!
