The fast-paced and hectic of city life sometimes make us stress and tired. Heavy traffic, work pressure, full of activity, is our daily experience when living in a big city like Jakarta. One thing we can do to relieve stress is a quick getaway, go out of town, enjoy fresh air and mountain view, quality time with family, and indulge with great food is always a good idea.
Recently, FOOD IN LOVE visited Bumi Sampireun, an Indonesian restaurant which located inside Vimala Hills Villa & Resort, Ciawi, Bogor. Vimala Hills is a first class resort area features wonderful vistas of three majestic mountains, the Pangrango, Salak, and Geulis, and can be reached in just only 30 minutes from Jakarta via Tol Jagorawi. So it is a perfect choice for a quick getaway, isn’t it?
After entering the main gate of Vimala Hills, you will be greeted by beautiful flower hills, vast green scenery, and panoramic mountain views. We’re so happy to be here since it’s not the view you can enjoy every day in the city. Bumi Sampireun itself located at the center of Vimala Hills, at the opposite if Pullman Resort, the only 5-star resort in Puncak area.
Bumi Sampireun is managed by the same company who owned Talaga Sampireun. The restaurant looked pretty gorgeous surrounded by nature where you can enjoy fresh air and seeing the green views. It also spacious with around 200 seating capacity, including 12 saung (cottages) and VIP room.
Featuring Indonesian traditional cuisines, Bumi Sampireun offers a wide variety of dishes ranging from appetizers, the main course which consists of seafood, vegetables, and soup dishes, traditional snack, and desserts. Their seafood dishes will be a highlight since they have great selection such as shrimp, fish, crab, and squid.
Teh Poci
Their Teh Poci is a signature beverage here so don’t skipping this to prepare your palate before enjoying the food. One teapot can be shared for up to 3 cups.
Nasi Liwet
When it comes to the Indonesian or Sundanese restaurant, Nasi Liwet is one of the mandatory items to order. It’s the succulent rice cooked in coconut milk, broth, and spices. The rice dish is well executed with nice fluffy texture, classic savory taste, very aromatic and it comes with a generous amount of anchovies.
Udang Bakar Madu
It’s jumbo prawns grilled with sweet honey BBQ sauce and served on a sizzling hot plate. The size of the prawn is very satisfying, it’s huge and full of meat. It tastes savory and sweet altogether with a juicy texture and nice grill aroma.
Patin Bakar Bambu
Honestly said, they served the best Patin Bakar Bambu and this one is a must try since it’s their specialty dish. It’s a kind of catfish grilled in bamboo and fully covered in spices. The fish is fresh and the seasoning is great, you can have the seasoning paste in every inch of the fish! The portion is good for share with 3-5 person.
Gurame Parahyangan
It is a unique creation by Bumi Sampireun, a Sundanese style fried Gurame served with raw vegetable, vermicelli, peanut, ginger, bean sprouts, onion, and chili condiments. We love the way they deep fried the fish to perfection, it has a nice crispy texture, very meaty and fresh as well. Besides the fried gurame, all ingredients are raw. The most unique part is how to eat it. Put all the condiments with gurame, add some chili, and then wrap it with vegetable leave, just like the way to eat Korean BBQ. It tastes combination of savory, spicy, sour, and sweet. Honestly, we don’t really like the dish with raw ingredients like this, but for those who like, it will be a good choice to taste and experience its unique dish.
Bancakan
Bumi Sampireun has just launched their new Bancakan package. The package consists of ayam bakar, gepuk, tahu, tempe, lalap, steamed rice, and chili condiments with hot/ice tea. It’s a perfect feast to enjoy with your friends/family with a minimum order of 8 pax. FYI, it also can be delivered to your place with a minimum order for 20 pax.
Dori Dabu – Dabu
Who doesn’t like fried dori? Fried to perfection dori served with dabu-dabu, manadonese style spicy condiments is never going wrong.
Buntil
It is a traditional Javanese dish of grated coconut meat mixed with teri (anchovies) and spices, wrapped in cassava leaves, then boiled in coconut milk and spices. It’s just okay but nothing special.
Ikan Bilis Goreng Pete
The Ikan Bilis or anchovies are well cooked with sambal pete and it’s so crunchy, tasty, and savory. It is good enough to just eat it with warm steamed rice.
Jagung Telur Asin
Sweet corn fried and cooked with salted egg? Sound unique for us! It’s crunchy and tasty, but in our opinion, its lack of salted egg flavor.
Tape Goreng
A simply Indonesian traditional snack, tape or traditional fermented rice is fried and topped with palm syrup and grated cheese. It has a nice crispy texture and goes well with the toppings. Yummy!
Surabi Solo
It is an Indonesian traditional pancake that is made from rice flour with coconut milk or shredded coconut as an emulsifier. It tastes sweet with sticky rice, peanut, and chocolate topping.
Es Tebu Kelapa
Perfect refreshment after the feast. Fresh ice coconut perfectly combined with sugarcane juice. It’s so refreshing at the right level of sweetness.
Overall, Bumi Sampireun offers great food, good views, and peaceful ambiance with excellent service. Their signature dishes, especially Udang Bakar Madu and Patin Bakar Bambu are highly recommended. We also glad to know that they’re using all fresh ingredients with natural herbs and spices. If you’re looking to have a short weekend getaway, visiting Bumi Sampireun at Vimala Hills will be a good idea and we’re sure that you’ll love it.
