COM NGON – Lippo Mall Kemang

What comes to your mind when you hear Vietnamese food? For most people, Pho and Bahn Mi will be the top of mind. But do you know that Vietnamese cuisine has so many variations, and some of them are clay pot rice, barbecue, and steamboat which is the signature menu from Com Ngon, a newly opened Vietnamese restaurant at Lippo Mall Kemang.

Com Ngon is the latest brand in the Indonesian market from Yeu Saigon Group, the same group who owned and managed Saigon Cafe, Saigon Delight, and Madame Mai who focused on authentic and healthy Vietnamese. Com Ngon means ‘delicious rice’, with their mission to introduce the wide range of Vietnamese cuisine other than the famous Pho and Banh Mi. Its located at Lippo Mall Kemang, South Jakarta, precisely next to Saigon Delight on UG Floor, Avenue of the Stars.

Com Ngon’s concept is all about healthy & fresh authentic Vietnamese cuisine. That’s why they use freshly grown Vietnamese herbs with no MSG. They also have their organic farm on the rooftop and hire Vietnamese chefs to maintain the quality and authenticity of their food. Looks how they are very serious for serving delicious and healthy Vietnamese cuisine.

Goi Buoi Tom

For starter, we had this pomelo salad with shrimp. The salad consists of tangy pomelo, leaves, shallots, shrimp, crackers, and sour fish sauce dressing. The way to eat this salad is put the shrimp and vegetables on the crackers and then drop some fish sauce dressing. The salad is really fresh while the crunchy cracker gives it a unique sensation.

This is a Vietnamese steamed escargot with minced chicken and served with ginger fish sauce. It more like Indonesian otak otak, but with the combination of steamed escargot and minced chicken.

Banh Pho Cuon Bo

What a beautiful and instagramable presentation from Com Ngon. The colorful steamed rice rolls with lemongrass beef and sesame seed resulting in chewy texture and flavorful filling. Just like the spring roll, it also has a sauce condiment. Don’t forget to dip it into sweet and sour chili dipping for more comforting taste.

Who can resist this grilled squid stuffed with lemongrass? Looks tempting, isn’t it? A sliced whole big squid is fresh, chewy, and tender. It grilled to perfection with great seasoning and served with unique fried lemongrass.

Another grilled meat option is the roasted mutton satay. The mutton was tender and well seasoned. It served with peanut sauce like Indonesian satay, but it has a lighter texture and sweeter taste.

Ga Nuong Mat Ong – Xoi Chien

This is our most favorite dishes. The grilled kampung chicken with honey will never go wrong. It served with crispy sticky rice which is very unique, crispy outside and soft inside. We liked it so much! The portion is available in half and whole chicken.

Bu Nuong Ong Tre

Another unique presentation from Com Ngon, this is the grilled sliced beef in bamboo. The beef is very juicy and bold of flavor. The addition of sesame makes it more fragrant and flavorful.

Mam Com Cha Kho To

A complete set of clay pot rice with patin fish stew, vegetables soup, minced chicken, stir-fried veggie, and chili condiments will give you a unique experience. As a Vietnamese home dining style,  this dish was simple but contained a lot of elements. The texture of the clay pot rice was really good, it’s dry but soft at the same time. Every single part of this dish really went well when you eat it together.

Lau Ca

Vietnamese steamboat is also the signature dish in Com Ngon. Here we tried their sweet & sour fish steamboat and beef steamboat. The fish steamboat soup was refreshing with the balance of sweet and sour flavor, more like tom yum soup. Almost like Tom Yum. The patin fish itself is fresh and doesn’t smell fishy at all.

As for the Beef Steamboat, it consists of beef ribs, oxtail, sliced beef, meatballs. and served with veggies, tofu & rice vermicelli. The soup was rich and flavorful with beef broth. So, it’s not only a healthy dish but also delicious.
