It’s not hard to find an Indian restaurant in Jakarta, but it’s not as easy as you find an Indonesian or Chinese restaurant for sure. So it’s quite frustrating when we were craving for good Indian food. From a handful of the Indian restaurant in Jakarta, we’re pleased to find out Taal Indian Restaurant, which arguably the best Indian restaurant in Jakarta so far and give it a visit a few weeks ago.
Taal Indian Restaurant located at the Mall of Indonesia shophouses, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. It’s precisely located on Block B which facing Jalan Boulevard Barat Raya and parallel to BNI. The place is not too spacious like normally a shophouse, it’s not fancy but it’s not an issue and it’s comfy enough to enjoy their good Indian food because everything is neat and clean.
Taal offers a wide variety of Indian dishes, ranging from vegetarian, rice, chicken, mutton, seafood, bread, and drinks. Each category has a lot of selection, so we suggest you ask the waiters for any recommendation based on your preferences, and it is what we’ve had.
Condiments
After ordering your meal, the condiments will be served on your table in 5 small cups of colorful condiments. If we’re not mistaken, all of them is chili condiments made from various ingredients, such as young mango, red chili, tamarind, onion, etc. The waiters explained that those condiments are fresh and to increase your appetite, but honestly, we don’t like it and prefer to eat our food without those condiments.
Mix Naan
For starter, we opted for mixed naan which has a combination of butter, garlic, and cheese. Naan is Indian bread made from regular flour, baked and tandoor with toppings or ingredients. It results in a salty and savory flavor which we like. We also ordered Butter Naan and it also good as well, it’s more recommended if you don’t like the garlic flavor.
Chicken Briyani
Taal served steamed briyani and fried briyani. For this one, they use fried briyani so it rich in spices and has a bold and rich flavor. The rice is fragrant and has a soft texture while the chicken is tender and very well seasoned.
Chicken Punjabi Masala
It is a special North Indian gravy cooked in chicken and eggs. The gravy is rich and creamy with a touch of tanginess from the tomato while the boneless chicken chunks are tender with a bold sweet-savory flavor. Like it so much!
Palak Paneer
Don’t judge the book by its cover. This dish may look less palatable, but don’t get me wrong. Palak Paneer surprisingly good, it’s creamy and savory, made up from cottage cheese cooked with spinach base gravy.
Overall, we agree that Taal Indian Restaurant arguably the best Indian restaurant in Jakarta. They have a lot of choices of finest Indian cuisine which you’ll hardly find anywhere else. Indian food usually is very pungent but somehow they make it really good! The portion is also generous and its perfect for share with 2-2 person. So, the food is excellent and the price is reasonable. Please allowed longer waiting time since all foods are freshly cooked here so it comes out rather slow, but trust me it’s totally worth it. Will be come back for sure!
