NASI AKWANG – Muara Karang, Pluit

Nasi Campur or Chinese mixed rice is one of my comfort foods. Besides Nasi Campur Kong Hu Pay that I have reviewed before, Nasi Akwang is also my favorite place to eat nasi campur in Jakarta.

Originated from Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Nasi Akwang has expanded its business to Jakarta and Tangerang with 4 branches in Pluit, Kelapa Gading, Taman Palem, and Gading Serpong.

The outlet I’ve visited is the one at Muara Karang in Pluit area, North Jakarta.  The place is spacious and pretty new since it just opened a few months ago. Compared to another similar restaurant, I love that they have a proper and comfier place, with air conditioner and impressed clean with white color dominance. They also have their own parking area which is a plus point in these crowded Muara Karang area.

Nasi Akwang serves authentic Pontianak style nasi campur, complete with their signature thick broth and their sambal terasi and sambal hijau. It is more like Nasi Campur Singkawang from Kong Hu Pay rather than Medan style, since both of them originated from West Kalimantan.

Nasi Campur

Nasi campur or mixed here means a plate of steamed rice accompanied by small portions of a number of other dishes, such as pork (roasted pork, pork charsiew, and pork sausage) and chicken meat on a single plate. It served with thick garlic soup and clear soup.

The plus point here is the generous portion of meat. You can look at the photos below how this plentiful amount of meat covers the steamed rice. It usually served with thick garlic soup over rice, but usually, I will ask for an additional bowl for this thick garlic soup.

Every single item; roasted pork, pork charsiew, pork sausage, and chicken are very juicy, tasty, and flavorful. The fried garlic and thick soup really give a boost for the flavor and make it even better. Don’t forget to add sambal terasi for a more spicy kick. It’s so yummy and such a perfect combination, the rice, the meat, the soup, and sambal terasi make it more perfect!

Samcan (Roasted Pork Belly)

Even it is already served on a plate of nasi campur, but I usually will order an additional portion of samcan or roasted pork belly. The main reason is it tastes a bit different when you mixed it with rice and thick soup or eat it separately where you can enjoy its crispiness and crunchy to the max.

The pork belly is extremely juicy with its fatty and tender texture. It’s also very well seasoned, tastes savory, and roasted to perfection. Simply one of the best roasted pork belly I’ve ever had!

Es Jeruk Sonkit

Enjoying this drink after having nasi campur is truly a thirst quencher. It’s truly refreshing with a balanced combination of sweet and sour. FYI, sonkit is a citrus fruit originated from Pontianak, which known for its thick rind is easy to peel and its bright orange pulp is sour-sweet and full-flavored.

Overall, Nasi Akwang serves a great tasted of Pontianak style Nasi Campur. Price wise, it’s a little bit pricey, but considering the quality and quantity you had, it’s worth the price tag at the end. It’s definitely one of my favorite nasi campur in Jakarta and I always visit them regularly.
