BUBUR CAP TIGER – Cikajang, Senopati

If you love Chinese style porridge, you should be familiar with Bubur Ayam Mangga Besar 1. That is my most favorite restaurant to have a Chinese-style porridge, and I’m glad to know that I can find a similar kind of this porridge in South Jakarta, at Bubur Cap Tiger in Senopati area.

Bubur Cap Tiger located on the second floor of C(E)K Clinic, at Jalan Cikajang, Senopati – South Jakarta. The space itself is not too spacious yet can accomodate approx. 50 pax with their outdoor seating. The interior was simply designed with a touch of stylish and modern ambiance and decorated with Chinese decorative elements, dominated by white and red color.

Just as the name suggests, Bubur Cap Tiger specialises in porridge, or Chinese style chicken porridge to be exact. They serves various selection, ranging from classic white porridge, chicken, and fish red porridge, as well as Hainan chicken rice.

At the first time I saw their signage, I just wondering why they put “Bubur Mangga Besar” on the sign. I found out later, it hints at its family connection so Bubur Cap Tiger is based off on the legendary Bubur Mangga Besar 1. But Bubur Cap Tiger’s owner John Darmawan, who’s second generation, is eager to make it clear that the establishment is an entirely new brand with its own identity that shares its parents’ DNA.

Bubur Ayam (Chicken Porridge)

This is the dish that would ordered by everyone. A classic chicken porridge which very tasty and flavorful. I just love its soft and not too watery texture, and order an extra-egg for more deliociosness. The porridge is also served with cakwe (Chinese fried dough), which can be eaten with mixed into the porridge, or eaten separately.

Chicken Porridge (IDR 40,000), Extra Egg (IDR 8,000)

Bubur Beras Merah (Red Porridge)

If you’re bored with ordinary classic white porridge, you can ask for their bubur beras merah or red porridge. Made of brown rice grains, it is a healthier option indeed.

Plain Red Porridge (IDR 30,000)

Steamed Chicken (Pek Cam Kee) & Grilled Chicken

To enjoy the Chinese style porridge, you usually need another side dish to enjoy your porridge, and the mandatory is Pek Cam Kee or steamed chicken. The chicken was soft, tender, and juicy. The fragrant sesame aroma from sesame oil make it more flavorful. In addition, you could ask for the grilled chicken (whole or half-half).

Steamed Chicken / Grilled Chicken (IDR 55,000/fourth; IDR 110,000/half; IDR 220,000/whole)

Century Egg

Century egg is one of the eggs that is quite difficult to make and quite complicated in its making process, but Bubur Cap Tiger has done the job very well. The texture and aroma of their century egg was top notch and on point.

Centrury Egg (IDR 22,000)

Other Side Dishes & Drink

The other side dishes that I recommend you to order are salted egg, soy egg, salted vegetable, and soy tofu. I personally always ordered salted egg since it is a perfect pairing with the porridge. As for drink, I would recommend you to order Badak, a sarsaparila drink originated from Pematang Siantar, North Sumatra.

Soy Egg / Soy Tofu (IDR 10,000)

Overall, Bubur Cap Tiger is a good choice if you’re looking for a Chinese chicken porridge in South Jakarta. The tastes is good and the price is also reasonable consider its location. Another good point is, they are open until 3 AM so it is also a perfect spot have a supper and freshen up yourself with a bowl of warm porridge.
