Calling all truffle lovers! Last week, I have visited Momozen at The Plaza Office Tower who known as a house of truffle and tried some of their signature dishes. In this post, I will gonna share the review with you.
Nestled on The Plaza’s 46th floor with stunning cityscape views across Jakarta, Momozen is home to a modern Japanese menu with significant French twists, including copious amounts of luscious fresh truffles! The brainchild behind this menu of wonders is celebrity Chef Sho Naganuma, famed for his appearances on the Asian Food Channel.
The first thing that you will experience when you enter Momozen is simplicity. It is decorated with modern Japanese style emphasizing natural elements such as soil, stone, plant, wood, and fire. All of each color elements are represented on the chair, table set and decoration, wall, floor, big Japanese kimonos, and modern art pictures. This is a nice place to dine with your loved ones or family.
If you wonder what happens when you fuse Japanese and French style together, Momozen offers us the answer since they are focuses in delivering modern Japanese fusion cuisine or should I say a Japanese-French cuisine. Those below were some of the food that I tried to help you decide what to order here.
Corn Sweet Corn
For starter, I had corn sweet corn, made from fresh Hokkaido corn, shoyu truffle butter, and sea salt. It’s simply yummy and flavorful, a hint of sweet from fresh corn with fragrant truffle aroma just make me more appetite for the next courses.
Truffle Somen with Caviar
One of popular dishes at Momozen, this is chilled Japanese somen served with dashi infused black truffle, truffle kombu, and caviar 24k gold. The chilled Japanese somen has a good texture which I like. The seasoning just flawlessly hits the spot, tangy and refreshing with tantalizing aroma of truffle.
Ebi Jaga
My first impression is it’s looks like a heavy appetizer because of it jumbo tiger prawns. But yes, it’s a perfect appetizer for share. Beautifully presented with crispy jagano potato (anyway everything on the table here are edible) and served with mango chili. The jumbo tiger prawns are fresh, fried to perfection and so crispy.
Wagyu Taco Slider
I had another shared appetizer and this time is wagyu taco slider. Filled with wagyu hamburg patty, tomato corriander salsa, and truffle mayonnaise, this is such a great creation especially for its wagyu hamburg patty, which is very juicy and tender.
Toro Pizza
If you want a lighter and healthier option for appetizer, I would recommend the Toro Pizza. Toro is the term for the fatty part of the tuna, found in the belly portion of the fish. So, it is actually a tuna pizza with a crispy dough. Beside chopped toro, it’s also topped with caviar, garlic cream, and micro herbs.
Miso Salmon
For seafood dish, I opted for Miso Salmon which is Momozen’s signature menu for seafood category. It consists of ocean salmon, caviar, baked onion, dill cream, and shiro miso. The salmon was really fresh, perfectly paired with dill cream and shiro miso flavor, not to mention its beautiful presentation.
Baby Chic Truffle Rice
This is one of their signature dishes and simply one of the best selling menus here, whole slow roasted baby chicken stuffed with truffle butter rice. The baby chic has been cut into pieces, then topped it again with more grated black truffle.
The chicken was beautifully cooked with fresh tender meat and of course the thigh and crispy skin are my favorite part. The truffle butter rice was salty in the most delicious way and fragrant too, and the generous grated black truffle make it more flavorful.
Master Kobe Shiogama Beef
OMG this is simply the best dish on my dinner. The 200 gr chuck roll of Kobe Shiogama beef was extremely juicy, tender, and melt in my mouth. It’s also served on salt crust dome with Japanese condiments which make it more unique in term of presentation.
Truffle Donabe Gohan
Save the best for last! So here it is the main reason to visit Momozen, rice cooked in Japanese claypot with truffle oil and freshly shaved black truffle. Each portion is perfect for sharing for two person, the proportion of seasoning is just right on, savory comforting with amazing fragrance of truffle in each spoonful. To make sure the rice is fully seasoned and fluffy, they soak the rice with broth for at least 12 hours. It was super truffle aromatic which I guess for me the more the better, short to say it just delectably good.
Overall, I had a great dinner experience at Momozen. Fancy place with breathtaking city view, great and unique creation, amazing flavor, yet the price was reasonable as well. How they combined Japanese dishes with French twist and make their “house of truffle” concept stonger and unique. It’s certainly recommended restaurant to go if you love Japanese dishes with twist of French cuisine.
