In collaboration with the Embassy of Peru in Indonesia, Holiday Inn & Suites Jakarta Gajah Mada invited Peruvian Professional Chef, Jaimie Arbulu to bring to the table the most authentic Peruvian dishes with all the ingredients rarely found in Jakarta.
The highlights of Peruvian cuisine here are Ceviche (Marinated catch of the day cured in citrus sauce) and Lomo Saltado (Stir fried thinly sliced beef with onions, tomatoes, and french fries) also beverage menu, Pisco Sour with many styles.
Foodies will be spoiled with world class cuisine handcrafted by the master himself starting from 20 August 2019 until 1 September 2019. Chef Jaime will take the diners on an indulgence culinary journey, ranging from dinner set menu at Duta Café & Restaurant, cocktail making appearance at Duta Lounge as well as a specially curated Peruvian buffet station at Duta Café & Restaurant.
Ceviche was composed of chunks of raw red snapper, marinated in freshly squeezed key lime, with sliced onions, chili, salt and pepper also Leche de Tigre (“tiger milk”).
Lomo Saltado is my most favorite here. Thinly sliced beef stir fried with onions, tomatoes, and french fries. The beef was very juicy, tender, and has a perfect seasoning. Just can’t get enough of this!
My another favorite is Arroz Chaufa, Peruvian fried rice and vegetables. Taste wise, it is more like the combiantion of Indonesian and Chinese fried rice. Salty, savory, and flavorful while the rice texture was soft and fluffy which I like.
Next dishes, Aji de Gallina which is also my favorite, is one of Peruvian comfort food. It is made of chicken cooked with yellow chili peppers, walnuts, spices, garlic, and turmeric.
Besides the menu menu I have mentioned above, there are still some Peruvian cuisines available on the buffet station such as Chilcano de Fish (Peruvian seafood soup), Arroz Con Pato (Peruvian duck with rice), Sudado de Pascado (Peruvian style fish stew), Picante de Camarones (Peruvian spicy shrimp), and Aguadi de Pollo (chicken rice soup).
As for dessert, my favorite is Pudding Um Ali or bread pudding. It is made of bread or puff pastry get mixed with nuts, coconut flakes, sweetened hot milk, topped with whipped cream and broiled to perfection. It resulting in crunchy and caramelized on top, deliciously creamy and silky in the bottom. Um Ali skips the eggs though, which makes it lighter in texture, looser and milkier as opposed to custardy. It may be eaten hot or cold, but at this moment it served hot. It’s maybe the most unique dessert flavor I’ve ever had and I liked it so much.
Overall, I’m glad to experience the world class Peruvian cuisine here and surprisingly it tastes good, or even very good for some dishes. It is very unique and hardly found in Jakarta. FYI, Peruvian Buffet menu available at Duta Cafe Restaurant from 20 August 2019 – 1 September 2019, starting price from IDR 298,000++.
