New Year’s Eve is just around the corner and it’s that time of the year again when the weather gets cooler and we make New Year’s resolutions we hope to keep. Are you already planning for the year-end holidays?
Last year, I spent New Year’s Eve in Singapore from 28th December 2019 – 3rd January 2019. Christmas comes to Singapore early every year, with festivities getting into full swing from mid-November. Singapore is really, really beautiful with great decoration and illumination, especially on special events such as Christmas, New Year, or Chinese New Year. Singapore is an ideal destination to spend New Year’s Eve for many Indonesian (including me). The main reason is their decorations, event, and vibes in every corner of the city make it feels like a wonderland where you can see everyone or family from children to the elderly share the joy and happiness.
Everyone looks happy and enjoying the city, especially at some popular destinations such as Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay Sands, Sentosa Island, and Orchard Road. In this post, I will share the pictures and the spot to visit when spending the new year’s holiday in Singapore.
Gardens by the Bay
I have visited Gardens by the Bay many times, maybe 6-7 times. But I just realized that this place is getting more popular after it featured in the “Crazy Rich Asian” movie in September 2018. Most people know about the Gardens By The Bay because of the Supertree Grove, 12 tree-like structures that act as vertical gardens and range from 82 feet tall to 160 feet tall. Admission to Supertree Grove is free.
With enchanting decoration and illumination concentrated at Supertree Groove, Christmas at Gardens by the Bay is magical fun and really like a wonderland. The stunning luminarie light sculptures that are handmade by craftsmen from Italy and a dazzling sight to behold for both kids and adults alike.
And also immerse yourself in this season of giving with a musical treat Garden Rhapsody, a signature light and sound show of the Gardens by the Bay featuring Supertree lights dancing to favorite Christmas classics. Usually, they had Christmas Special on holiday season, you can check the schedule on their official website. Complementing the music, fireworks, and celebrations, the scenic beauty of Gardens by the Bay adds more to the new year celebrations in Singapore.
Orchard Road
One of Singapore’s most popular neighborhoods and a world-class destination for avid shoppers and discerning visitors alike, Orchard Road’s buzzing atmosphere amps up as Christmas comes to town. Orchard Road transforms into a wonderland filled with bright lights, enchanting decorations, irresistible festive buys and endless bustle from holidaymakers.
During the festive season, great deals and special buys abound at Orchard Road. So make sure you drop to some popular shopping malls at Orchard road such as 313@Somerset, Orchard Central, Orchard Gateway, Paragon, Ngee Ann City / Takashimaya, ION Orchard, Wisma Atria, etc.
Merlion Park – Jubilee Bridge
Merlion is the most famous icon of Singapore to visit. During the year-end/countdown period, there’s a light projection show at the Merlion that you can enjoy for free. Next to Merlion Plaza, there is Jubilee Bridge, a curved pedestrian bridge forms part of the 3.5 km waterfront promenade around Marina Bay, affording panoramic views, connecting Merlion Plaza and Esplanade.
Jubilee Bridge is a well-loved spot to view the New Year’s fireworks display from as it provides a vivid panoramic view of the scintillating fireworks with iconic Marina Bay Sands in the background. However, a well-loved spot means it gets crowded quickly so, you’ve got to get there extra early if you want to snag yourselves a spot. FYI, this is exactly where I was to enjoy fireworks on New Year’s Eve. The fireworks that light up the night sky are a feast for the eyes.
Marina Bay Sands
Recognized as an architectural icon in Singapore, Marina Bay Sands is a giant luxury resort built on reclaimed land, which is distinguished by three 57-story towers with sloped glass facades. Each of the existing towers, which are linked by a cantilevered sky garden, houses luxury hotel rooms. The resort also has a museum, two theatres, a casino, shops, and restaurants.
There are many spots at Marina Bay Sands that provides a perfect vantage point for the New Year’s fireworks display, such as Waterfront Broadwalk, Event Plaza, or a 340-meter-long (1,120 ft) SkyPark and a 150 m (490 ft) infinity swimming pool at the top of the hotel.
Sentosa Island / Resort World Sentosa
If you’re looking for a more family or kids friendly place, Resort World Sentosa at Sentosa Island is a recommended place for you. The main attraction here is Universal Studios Singapore, a theme park with adventure rides, partying, fun games, not just for kids, but adults as well. If you have the entire day to spare, you can explore the other amazing attractions on Sentosa island before heading to the celebration at Universal. In addition, usually, there’s also a New Year’s Eve party at Siloso Beach, Palawan Beach, and Mount Faber Peak.
Personally, Singapore one of the best destinations (besides Hong Kong) for me to enjoy a New Year’s Eve. It’s such a wonderland and the place is a complete package full of excitement, surprises, and charm. Scintillating fireworks in the shimmering sky with amazing enthralling activities to do what more could be asked at the New Year Celebration in Singapore. Well, this is my list of recommended places to enjoy the Year-End Holiday in Singapore. Hopefully, it will give you ideas or helps you to plan your holiday and enjoy the best moment of the year!
