[SINGAPORE] JIA JI MEI SHI (佳记美食) – Chinatown

Chinatown Complex Food Centre is a home for more than 250 food stalls, and also known for the biggest hawker centre in Singapore. In my previous posts, I have reviewed Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle and 168 CMY Satay whom also located at Chinatown Complex Food Centre. And in this post, I will review another stall called Jia Ji Mei Shi.

On my #FoodInLoveSINGAPORE trip earlier this year, I have visited Chinatown Complex Food Center and saw a bit long queue at Jia Ji Mei Shi at around 4 PM, which is not a dining time but they’re still have a long queue so I decided to give it a try.

I found out later, they are already famous among locals and known for their steamed dishes. Though they open till late, Jia Ji Mei Shi serves all-day breakfast like chee cheong fun (rice rolls), orh kueh (yam cake), porridge, fried bee hoon, rice dumplings, etc.

Since I had already order 2 other dishes from other stalls, so I decided to try their porridge which is also ordered by many customers. I opted for Century Egg Minced Meat Porridge (SGD 3).

Century Egg Minced Meat Porridge (SGD 3 )

I do find the porridge had a good taste and soft texture. Their plain porridge is flavorful and savory enough, a little bit salty but also satisfying due to the generous servings of minced pork and century egg.

For more comforting taste, I still add pepper, chili, and fish sauce. I can say that the texture and the taste were just on point. Enjoying a bowl of warm and tasty porridge like this is a kind of comfort food for me.

Overall, there are maybe better ones porridge out there but the ones here at Jia Ji Mei Shi are comforting in its own ways and it’s definitely one of recommended stalls at Chinatown Complex Food Centre. Surely I will come back to try their breakfast items, which they are famous for, such as chee cheong fun (rice rolls), orh kueh (yam cake), rice dumplings, etc. and all at affordable price!
